by Rich Lazzara on October 23, 2009

Video is huge! When I say huge I mean YouTube serves up 1 BILLION videos everyday. When I say huge I mean YouTube is the second largest search engine, behind Google. When I say huge I mean it has the ability to turn your small, relatively unknown business into a worldwide brand!

Two Extraordinary Business Examples

Most of us are familiar some of the more famous viral videos that make their rounds such as the recent JK Wedding dance However how while that’s entertaining how can business use it.

WineLibraryTv is a great example of how a company can turn a daily video into a media publishing powerhouse. Gary Vaynerchuk is an Internet phenomenon who took his passion for the family wine business and has parlayed it into something so much bigger.

Another great example is Blendtec.  Several years ago, CEO Tom Dickson, created a video showing his commercial grade blenders tearing apart various objects. The show Will It Blend featured the blenders mutilating items such as golf balls, marbles even an iPhone.  This show was instantly a hit and the results are Blendtec’s dominating their industry.

Why Now is the Best Time

I started to do some tests, but the main reaison why I didn't start is I was not sure that people are really watching videos while at work. People can read easier than watching. Maybe this is different in US ?

Anyway soon I will start, as you pushed me ;)
  • Frederik, they may not watch them at work, but don't let that stop you. Keep producing relevant content and they will watch. I don't know if its different here in the US or not. I do know that the largest video site in the world is not YouTube, but one in China, I forget the name. Anyways try it and see how it works for your market.
  • Trying to get into more video, but my flip cam (non-HD) has its flaws. I think having a mix of audio, text, and video is a perfect setup. Good tips here my man.
  • Thanks Nathan, yes, podcasts are another great way to interact with your customers. Maybe look at that new Kodak Zi8. Im thinking about getting it because it has audio input for external mic.
  • That's not bad, less than 200 bucks. External mic makes a huge difference, I can tell I'll need one very soon.
