Dropping Nickels On Others Dreams

Dropping Nickels On Others Dreams

I heard someone say this the other day in reference to giving money to a charity. His point was we need to do more.  It got me thinking about doing more with dreams.

Essentially it paints a perfect picture of exactly what many people do.  Each day they go through the motions of life and work, never giving it their all, just giving enough.  It’s as if your dropping nickels worth of effort in all that you do.  To compound the issue not only are you dropping little nickel amounts of effort, you’re dropping them into others dreams.  Think about it, its a lose – lose situation.

What if we approached effort and dreams differently?

Dropping Everything On Others Dreams

What would happen if you approached everything as if it was your last task?  What would happen if you were guaranteed that the harder the effort the better the results?  What dreams that others have can you meet with all that you have?  As an entrepreneur you have the opportunity to create something that can contribute to others dreams.

Sometimes when the word dreams is mentioned it is associated with a lofty goal but what about breaking it down to the day to day. Dreams can also be our expectations and as an entrepreneur how are you meeting others expectations?  By doing just enough or going over and beyond.  Is your product so exceptional it exceeds expectations?  Is your service so remarkable it’s memorable?  Are you going to offer your customers nickels, dollars or everything?

Dropping Everything On Your Dreams

Certainly being focused on others is important, however what about your dreams?  Putting things off, giving them effort whenever you get around to it, making excuses to delay your dreams, these are all examples of dropping nickels.  What would happen if you started dropping some big money on your dreams?  One things for sure, if you don’t others wont, so it’s up to you.

That's a really good way of looking at it. The problem with “dropping nickels” is that you aren't taking advantage of the process. It's like trying to pay a credit card off with nickels instead of dollars. You never reach the velocity needed for things to really take off.

I think there's almost a direct relationship between what you get out of an effort and what you put it into it. With blogs for example, those who have invested in courses that cost a bit more tend to be much more successful just because they have invested a significant amount of money/time into the process. As a result you hit momentum.

My wife and I were having a very in depth discussion the other night on our views of the world and things. We have some 'dreams' we are working toward. I see the only way to do that is to do it through our own work and effort in our businesses, not someone else's businesses.

So anyway, I shared with her that I just wasn't ok with working on someone else's dream. That it went beyond money and beyond recognition and just went to the core of who I am.

Part of my dream is to make a real difference in what I do, not just go through the motions. That is with me to the depths of my soul.

Thanks for another thought provoking post!
