Enemies Of The Now

by Rich Lazzara on February 1, 2010

That idea you’ve had in your head for some time, you know the thing your gonna get around to someday. When are you gong to do it? When is it your time?

“Soon”, “later”, “tomorrow”, “before you know it”….said any of these before? I know I have.  The problem is that each of them are enemies of the now. It’s “the now” in the execution of your idea that’s missing.  It’s not the idea, it’s not the plan, heck it’s not even the how, it’s the now.

In fact instead of doing something towards your idea you get caught up in the idea of the idea.  You spend time thinking about the idea instead of executing it.  You spend time thinking about what if and how to and it’s paralyzing your progress. The difference between people that are doing things and those that don’t is “The Now” .  There is no waiting, no contemplating, no hesitating,  just now.

What are you doing right now to reach your goals?

  • I'm a huge fan of "The Now." I think Eckhart Tolle should be a mandatory read... it really puts things in perspective and shows how ridiculous it is to live anywhere other than "now."
  • Jenny, Im embarrassed to say that I had not heard of Eckhart Tolle until you brought it to my attention. I read a ton but somehow his books have escaped my selections. Thank you for pointing it out, I should read it. thanks for the comments.
  • Rich,
You always have a very unique ways of wording things. It just flows.

I investigated this the LAST YEAR. Although that may seem like not 'NOW', it kinda was. It took me a year of study and experience after a certain event to come to the point where I said, 'It's time to act NOW'.

    What did I do?

I decided to make my biggest and hardest product ever... for FREE.

It's been such an intense last 3 weeks. This 'course' started yesterday, lasts 90 days, and it's proving so far to be a great move. I've never had so much traffic, retweets or facebook shares as I do now. In fact, I bet in the last 24 hours that all of my previous retweets and facebook shares don't add up to this.

    Now matters.

    Stop thinking, start doing.

    Be human.

Your tribe will understand and love you for it.
  • Chris, wow, very cool to hear! Thanks for sharing this tactic with us. Your site and product are awesome. While Im not the target market, from a person looking in from the outside it seems like you have a ton of opportunities to turn that FREE into value for everyone. Thanks for sharing.
  • Tom
You got it so right! I think a lot of people (including myself) put too much effort into developing the idea, but I think also a lot of people are over educated... there is a time and place for education, but then there is also a time to put down the books and dive into making something of your idea.
  • Tom, great points. I tend to get stuck doing the same thing. Research and learning and discovering instead of just doing. Thanks for the comments.
  • Amen Tom! Love it.
  • So true...for years I did nothing but write down ideas. Now, I try to action at least one per day. As you know...I get a bit distracted :)
  • Haha, no worries. A little creative thinking, outside your normal thought process, leads to good ideas that you can do right now.
