Do you have a facebook fan page? If not you should (mine is here). Your company needs to be involved in social media, be it blogs, twitter, youtube or facebook. I can’t tell you how many people wonder why the heck a company needs to be involved in the latest “fad” . The reason is simple. That’s where you customers are.
We sell yachts that average in price $4 – $17 million and we have a facebook fan page. Our customers, by most accounts, are the last demographic that would use facebook. The fact is about 10% of our customers have facebook pages. While that may not sound like a big number, that has happened in just the last 6 months. It’s just one other place that we are able to communicate directly with our clients and the more you can do that the better. In addition it allows me to see what’s going on in their lives so that I can personalize my communication with them. Whether its’ a birthday greeting or comments on their latest trip it helps to connect me more with our customers.
Now I realize that just because your a fan of a company doesn’t mean you are a potential customer. However there is a concept we use at our company called “Thems that own and Thems that dream”. In brief it’s an understanding that people who dream of owning your product are as important to building the brand as those that own it.
So whatever it is your selling set up a page so people can become fans. There is a good overview of doing just that here.
