Six Reasons Email Kills Social Media For Selling

Email is dead! Social Media killed it! Oh really?

When I see articles like this claiming email is dead I say GREAT more opportunities for me!  I’m not sure how or why this whole email is dead thing started but one things for sure, it’s far from dead. In fact according to this study its use is increasing.  Oh and for all you who are thinking, yeah but the younger generation hates email.  Try again.

The one thing with statistics is that you can skew, bend and form them to nearly whatever you want. Email is still one of the most affective online marketing tools you can use to generate sales.  As a business one of your primary online strategies needs to be capturing your visitors email address.  You will be able to use this (with permission) to sell them. Here are some reasons why.

  • Email is conversational – 140 characters are you kidding? I’m just getting started at 140 characters.
  • Email is private – Great now 500 of my “closest” friends don’t have to know I’m interested in buying THAT
  • Email is controlled by user – Here it comes on twitter or facebook ….and there it goes. What do you mean I missed it?
  • Email is widespread – I love social media but email is still the dominant communication tool
  • Email is much more flexible - much more opportunity to be creative and use in different ways, pictures, videos, opt in, etc.
  • Email sells - People aren’t of the mindset to buy when they are on social networks
