“It’s not a pink slip. It’s a blank page”
That’s the tag line of a new short movie that was recently released which focuses on what happens after people get fired and start anew. From the website,
Lemonade is an inspirational film about 16 advertising professionals who lost their jobs and found their calling, encouraging people to listen to that little voice inside their head that asks, “What if?”
The movie runs in total around 40min and I must say as it came to an end I was hoping it would keep going. You can’t help but have empathy and excitement for each of the people that are interviewed. The cinematography and production value are so superb you just feel the pain, apprehension and passion. This movie and more importantly it’s theme is the stepping off point for the next decade. Years from now we will look back on 2009 and point to things such as Lemonade movie as the launch pad for the entrepreneurial revolution. It is such an inspirational movie and reinforces exactly what I’ve been saying on this site for some time, “Everyone’s an Entrepreneur.”
Now What?
In a recent post I wrote how being in your dead end career was a good thing and those exact sentiments are reiterated in Lemonade. The question you have to ask yourself is, now what? Let’s say you haven’t been fired or that you enjoy your current job. Great news for you, however you need to start thinking about those “Now What” scenarios. More importantly, you need to get inspired by the “What If ?”
What If?
What if you started a new job, new career or even better a new company? Each of us has an idea of something we’ve always wanted to do, perhaps when it comes to your career it’s not so clear. Continue along that path of discovery, don’t just settle into place because it’s easy to do. You must play out the “What if’s and Now What” scenarios in your mind. The truth is more than likely you will come face to face with that stark reality whether you want to or not.
Lemonade shows us what happens when reality and dreams violently collide. The beauty though ,unlike most collisions, is that at the intersection of these two very different forces the result is something neither reality or dreams could have accomplished.
So what’s your “What If” dream job? Leave a comment below.
